The Pismo Beach City Council will give $5,000 to help two student groups from South County schools get to Tennessee for a creative-thinking competition.
Last week the council unanimously voted to donate the money to student teams. This is the sixth year that the city has done so.
The international Destination Imagination program challenges students to use analytical thinking, imagination and teamwork to solve problems quickly while having fun. The teams use research, improvisation and drama to compete in timed events.
A group of students from Ocean View Elementary School in Arroyo Grande and one from Judkins Middle School in Pismo Beach will go to Tennessee for the global finals in May. To get there the local teams each need to raise $8,000 for travel and expenses.
