Biz Buzz: Longtime Templeton vintner sells winery

The Mastantuono Winery, set on a five-acre Templeton property, has been sold for an undisclosed sum to Ron Donati of the Donati Family Vineyards in Paicines, Calif. The Donati Family Vineyards consist of approximately 1,000 acres in San Benito County, and the family will change the name of the Templeton property to reflect the Donati name.

Winemaker for Donati Family Vineyards is Paso Robles native Dan Kleck, owner of Silver Stone Wines, and consulting winemaker to more than half a dozen other local wineries. Kleck is currently assessing the production capacity at the Mastantuono facility and will eventually move some of his production to that location.

Pasquale Mastantuono, who is retiring from the business after 30 years, will move to his home on the Spokane River in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The property sale is scheduled to close Feb. 8, and the winery is now having a liquidation sale of all of its tasting room merchandise and entire inventory of wine. Mastantuono produces about 10,000 cases a year.

Merchandise is discounted by 40 percent to 60 percent, and wines are available for up to 60 percent off. The sale will continue through Feb. 5.

Foundation names three new directors

The San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation has elected three new members to its board of directors: Lee Hollister, Mike Miner and Barbara Partridge.

Hollister is a San Luis Obispo dentist. Miner is the owner of Miner’s Hardware, and Partridge has been involved with several North County nonprofits. The new members are replacing Julian Crocker, Dean Miller and Jane Sinton.

Mortgage House opens new office in Portland, Ore.

The Mortgage House recently opened a branch in Portland, Ore. The San Luis Obispo-based mortgage loan company has multiple locations around the county and recently had expanded into Hawaii. The new office will be run by Cheryl Willey, the former administrative assistant to the division president, Roxanne Carr.

14 Fantastic Sams salons sold to couple

The 14 Fantastic Sams locations on the Central Coast have been sold.

Bill and Linda Walter sold their franchises, which extend from Atascadero to Carpinteria, after 20 years of ownership.

New owners Kelly and Jim Stegall have been involved in the Fantastic Sams organization in the past. Kelly Stegall ran the hair salon’s advertising agency since 1999, and Jim Stegall has experience in retail operations.

There are five Fantastic Sams locations in San Luis Obispo County.

Seminar on dietary supplements nears

Max Conn, owner of Cat & Exotic Care in Pismo Beach, is featured on the cover of the current issue of Exotic DVM Veterinary Magazine, an international publication for animal practitioners of nontraditional pets. He has previously been published in the magazine for his work on guinea pigs, ferrets and reptiles. His clinic, at 565 Five Cities Drive, was founded in 2004.

Patricia Kaspian, French esthetician at The Great Skin Co., at 2122 Ninth St., Suite 100, in Los Osos, recently became business partner with owner Sally Brooks. As co-owners, Kaspian and Brooks will promote client education in home-care and product use. Kaspian, who joined the company in 2005, previously managed Yvette’s Institut de Beaute in Los Gatos. Established in 1996, the company provides a variety of European skin-care techniques.
