In just a few months, children will be able to enjoy stomping grapes, climbing trees, playing in a pizza parlour and more at the new Paso Robles Children’ Museum (623 13th St.). The museum, opening in the old volunteer firehouse, will feature 20 exhibits, including a six-seat live theater and a 10-foot-tall artificial oak tree.

The new 15-acre Ravine Waterpark features kiddie slides and pool, lazy river, wave pool, flume and high-thrill slides and a "body bowl," which spins like a toilet flush. The park is at the northwest corner of Airport Road and Highway 46 East.

For the skaters, there’s a skate park at 2198 Riverside Ave. (805-237-3988) at Pioneer Park. It’s free and open from dawn until dusk. The concrete park offers rails and a quarter-pipe. Helmets and knee and elbow pads required.

There are also parks in Templeton, at 599 Main St., behind the youth center, and Atascadero, at 5493 Traffic Way, as well as elsewhere around the county.

The Templeton park (805-434-4900) is free, open 2:30 p.m. to dusk weekdays and 9 a.m. to dusk weekends. The 10,000 square-foot concrete park has two bowls, rails and half-pipes. Helmets and elbow pads required.

The Atascadero park (805-461-5000 ext. 3472) is free, open on weekdays from 3-6 p.m. and weekends noon-4 p.m. The 8,400-square-foot concrete and wood park has pyramids, fun boxes, grind rails and ramps. Helmets and knee and elbow pads required.
