Help stamp out hunger

O n Saturday, letter carriers across the country will be collecting food while delivering the mail. Readers can help fight hunger by putting a bag of food where they collect their mail.

It’s the 16th anniversary of “Stamp Out Hunger” sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Food collected in our county is destined largely for the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. The Food Bank will distribute the food to agencies and food delivery sites around the county over the next few months. Your generosity will increase the impact of the Food Bank’s mission to alleviate hunger in our county.

The Food Bank Coalition thanks our letter carriers for their hard work every day and especially for their extra efforts on Saturday to help carry the fight against hunger. We also thank the citizens of our county for responding to the postal workers’ invitation to help those in need. The many agencies we serve are on the front lines of helping the growing number of people in financial stress.

Remember to put a bag of nonperishable, nutritious food by your mailbox (no glass containers, please), and you’ll help make a huge difference. The postal workers and the Food Bank Coalition will do the rest!

Carl R. Hansen,

The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County
