Comments (0) | About 4,000 homes and businesses all over Cambria lost power for about two hours Friday night after a driver crashed his vehicle into a utility pole and into a creek, knocking down electricity lines and a transformer.
The driver crashed just after 7 p.m. along Santa Rosa Creek Road, east of Main Street, according to the CHP’s media Web site.
Traffic signals were still working in the coastal town, though power was out in its commercial areas.
County road crews were called in to install barricades because the utility pole and transformer were blocking the road, and live wires were crossing it, according to the CHP.
The outage started about a half hour before a Coast Union High School varsity football game was to begin, hosting Caruthers High School from Fresno County.
That game was called off, and rescheduled for 1 p.m. today as an away match at Caruthers, south of Fresno.
Power was restored about 9 p.m. to most of town.
