The Coast Daylight, a passenger train that would eventually connect San Luis Obispo and San Francisco, has chugged forward with $25 million in money from Proposition 1B, according to the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments.
The money comes from $400 million approved by the California Transportation Commission for inter-city rail projects, according to Pete Rodgers of SLOCOG.
The Los Angeles to Seattle Coast Starlight travels through Oakland in the Bay Area, but does not divert to San Francisco.
“This money allows us to move forward with Union Pacific to select, engineer and build capital improvements - sidings, signals etc. – thus get their agreement to start the Los Angeles to San Francisco train,” Rodgers said.
If all goes well, the service could begin by 2011, he said.
